DIY Jelly SOAP!

Jelly Soap

Bath Soap Jelly is a really easy way to add a fun sensory element to bath play!  LUSH has their own versions which are amazing, but you can always make your own right at home. It basically functions the same as regular soap, but is jello-y and way more fun.  Read below for our simple recipe!

Materials needed:

  • 3/4 cup of  boiling water
  • Food coloring or soap dye.
  • 1 packet unflavored gelatin (I used Knox, available in most grocery stores)
  • 1/4 cup body wash (I used Honest Company body wash, but you can use any liquid soap you want.)
  • Silicone ice cube trays OR plastic chocolate molds (I used chocolate molds I picked up at a party store. However, using silicone ice cube trays will probably be less messy!)

Directions:

  1. Start off by boiling 3/4 cup of water in a saucepan
  2. Once you bring it to a boil, add in your gelatin packet and stir with a whisk
  3. Add in one or two drops of food coloring and the 1/4 cup of bath gel and mix again until well blended
  4. Pull off stove, let it cool down a bit, then pour into your mold (silicone ice cube tray or chocolate molds…you can get creative with this!)
  5. Chill in the fridge for a minimum of 6 hours
  6. Peel each bath jelly out of its mold and enjoy!

TIPS:

  • Don’t use if your child has a gelatin allergy
  • This product is not edible. If you’re making this for your children, always use very close supervision and make sure they do not try to place in their mouth or attempt to eat.
  • Never use sugary flavored jello! When purchasing gelatin, make sure it’s unflavored.
  • Some recipes call for more water, but I find that less water used makes for firmer soap that won’t fall apart
  • Store in a cool, dry place out of the reach of children. Do not store in the shower because they will melt.
  • You can design your jelly soap any way you’d like. You can use different colors or even add a little shimmer by adding in some mica powder (can be found on Amazon).
